The Riesel City of the United States lies at the junction of State Highway 6 and Farm Road 1860 in McLennan County. In around 1880, a house named Rody was established in this city by the Houston and Texas Railway. The city was named after W. H. Riesel, who built a gin in the area in 1890. In the same year, a post office was founded with the name Prospect. However, the post office was renamed in 1891 after Riesel. Riesel Independent School District was founded in 1895. The Riesel Breeze Newspaper, later renamed Riesel Rustler, was established in 1896.
