The U.S unincorporated community of Rochelle is located along the U.S Highway 190 McCulloh County, Texas. The community was initially known as Crothers or Crewville. The names were in honor of this area’s citizens. The name Rochelle was later chosen in 1879 by a French from La Rochelle. The change of the name was due to the establishment of a new post office in this area. The construction of railroads through thus area in 1903 and 1912 significantly boosted its development. The community had established general stores, churches and cotton gins by 1914. The area was also the center stage of the Independent School District.
