Smithville is a city in Bastrop County, Texas, United States, near the Colorado River. It has a population of 3.817 according to the last census. The city was founded in 1827 when the first settler called Dr. Thomas Jefferson Gazley built his family home in the area. The most important sites to see in the city are probably the museum dedicated to the history of the local railroads since it’s what created the community in Smithville and the mural for which it is famous. The Smithville post office contains oil on canvas mural, The Law, Texas Rangers, painted in 1939 by Minette Teichmueller.
