Afton incorporated community is located in the northern region of Dickens County in the US state of Texas. The community had its first post office named Beckton, established in 1893. The post office’s name would later be changed to Afton in 1900. The name Afton was inspired by Robert Burns’ poem titled “Sweet Afton.” The community’s main education center is the Independent Patton Springs School District. Some of Afton Community’s most notable figures include Charles Weldon Cannon and Trent Willmon. Cannon was a renowned saddlemaker born in 1915 while Willmon is an American country music artist born and raised on a ranch near Afton.
