Albany is a US city in Shackelford County in Texas. It’s located in the northeast of Abilene. It has a population of 2,034, according to the 2010 census. It serves as Shackelford County’s county seat. The city was founded in 1893. William Cruger, the county clerk at the time, named it Albany after his former home in Georgia by the same name. Among the most notable people born and raised in Albany include Lieutenant-Colonel William Dyess and Major General Robert Williams. Dyess survived the Bataan Death March while Williams led the Second World War’s aerial bombing on Germany’s Schweinfurt city.
