Alief is a US suburban community located in Harris County in Texas. It’s mostly within Houston’s city limits. Parts of Alief lie in the unincorporated Harris County and others in southwest Houston. Alief’s first residents settled in 1861 along Brays Bayou’s banks. They were known as Dairy, a small farming community. By the close of the 19th Century, Alief had matured into a commercial center. Its population ranged from 100 to 200 until the 1960s. In the 1960s, Alief experienced major development projects thanks to Houston's suburbanization. After failing to incorporate itself into Houston city, Alief was annexed by the city.
