Alpine is a US city located in Brewster County in the state of Texas. The city’s population was 5,905 in 2010 as per the census of the same year. While the town is 4,475 feet long, the mountain peaks that surround it are more than a mile above sea level. The city was first named Osborne. Earlier, from 1878 to 1882, a group of would tend their herds in the area before railroad workers created a town of tents. That particular section of the railroad was known as Osborne, the same name that the small community assumed. The town was later renamed to Murphyville in 1883 and finally Alpine in 1888.
