The US city of Amarillo is located in Texas State, and is the 14th most populous in the country. Part of the city stretches into Randall County. The city, which is the largest in the Texas Panhandle, serves as Potter County’s seat. The city’s estimated population as of 2018 was 199,924. According to 2017 estimates, the city’s metropolitan area has about 276,020 spread across four counties. Amarillo’s original name was Oneida. It was once referred to as the world’s helium capital owing to its productive helium fields. Other names for the city include Yellow Rose of Texas, Rotor City, and Bomb City.
