Atascosa is situated 14 miles southwest of Downtown San Antonio between Von Ormy and Lytle. According to the 2010 census, the town had an estimated population of 8,735, with a density of 208 people per square mile. Atascosa got its first post office in 1872. By 1885, the town had a district school, Baptist church, saloon, two blacksmiths, and a general store. In terms of Agriculture, the National Agricultural Statistics, in its report of 2007, found that the community had 70 crop operations and 125 animal operations. Out of the plant operations, three are estimated to have a value of $250,000.
