The US town of Avery is found in Red River County in Texas State. Its population, as per the 2010 census, was 482. Between the 1920s and early 1960s, Avery was a top tomato producer and shipper in Texas. Avery was founded in the 1870s and named Douglas. A post office was built here in 1881, and the town’s name changed to Isaca. It would later, in 1902, be changed to Avery after Ed Avery, the town’s first railway agent. In 1884, the town’s population was 30, increasing to 48 by 1896. By 1900, the town’s population had increased to 176. By then, it had a school and three churches.
