The Axtell unincorporated community is located in McLennan County in the US state of Texas. The community had a population of 2,284, according to the 2000 census. Axtell was founded in the early 1880s. It served as a rail stop along the Cotton Belt Route that was between Waco and Corsicana. This was during the Golden Era of the expansion of railroads. In 1982, it was granted the first post office that was named in honor of one of the railroad office. The community has a school, Axtell Independent School District, with two campuses that serve the area students well.
