Bacliff is a CDP — census-designated place — in Galveston County in the US state of Texas. It is 16 miles northwest Galveston. According to the 2010 census, Bacliff’s population was 8,619. When it began, Bacliff was a seaside resort town known as Clifton-by-the-Sea. The resort had an open air pavilion, a bathhouse, summer homes, hotels, and parks. It is located on Galveston Bay’s western shore. Bacliff was founded in 1910 by W. Y. Fuqua, G. C Perkins, who were local landowners, and named Clifton-by-the-Sea. Telephone services came to the area in 1913. By then, Grand Avenue was the area’s main street.
