Barksdale is the "no stoplight" community located in Edwards County, in the hilly countryside of Texas. Its population in 1990 was 617 and 1,020 in 200. The town has survived population roller-coasters that almost left it without human inhabitants. By 1840, the town had not even enough people to warrant a post office of its own. The town finally managed to get a post office in 1880 and by 1884; it had a population of 20, two general stores and a grocery store. The Garner Park, Lost Maples Park, are some of the most frequented public places in the area.
