The Barnhart unincorporated community was originally a frontier fort established in 1910 by William A. Barnhart. The community got its first post office in 1912. Barnhart’s population was estimated at 105 by the end of 2017. The first school operated from 1912 and was then closed in 1969 due to low student population. In 1920, the town got its first bank, the Barnhart Bank. However, the bank had to shift to a different town due to strained operations. The Goodfellow Air Force Base is one of the most popular places in this town. It also has minor sports leagues and cultural amenities.
