The US city of Bartlett stretches into two counties — Williamson and Bell. Settlers started living in Bartlett as early as the 1850s, but the town was officially founded in 1881. The Katy Railroad, after it reached here in 1882, made the town a popular attraction. Within two years after the arrival of the railroad, the town had a population of 300, a post office and two general stores. By 1890, Bartlett had managed to get a meat market, several banks, two weekly newspapers and four churches. The town was busiest during the early 1990s and by 1914, it had experienced a surge in its population which was more than 2,000 residents.
