Belmont is located in the farthest parts of Gonzales County at the intersection of the FM 466 and Texas State Highway. Belmont was founded during the 1840s during which it was used as a stage stop by the name Centerville. The name Belmont was chosen during its incorporation since another Centerville existed in Texas with an already established post office. The locals were required to come up with another name to get a post office of their own. The most exciting places to visit here include the Beaumont Botanical Gardens, Texas Energy Museum, the Village Creek State Park and the Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown.
