The Brashear unincorporated community is located in Hopkins County in Texas. Although the community is unincorporated, its residents enjoy the services of a post office whose ZIP code is 75420. Additionally, it has a radio building, farm buildings, and a church, among other buildings. Brashear was established in 1868 and named after Joseph Brashear. Brashear had surveyed the community’s townsite with foundation and settlement. This area had been part of a ranch that G. W. Mahoney bought and divided into small farms. Mahoney went on to lay out the townhouse. He would later donate land for a cemetery, church and school. A post office would later, in 1899, be built in the area and a school in 1905.
