The US city of Bridgeport is located in Wise County in Texas State. Its population, according to the 2010 census, was 5,976. The Texas Legislature named Bridgeport “the Stagecoach Capital of Texas. Bridgeport’s history began when William Hunt was granted a charter to build a bridge across the Trinity River’s West Fork. The wooden would be used for only a few months between 1860 and 1861. When the American Civil War began, the bridge was abandoned and left to deteriorate, later collapsing into the river. A new iron bridge was constructed in 1873 and a post office established. This marked the official creation of Bridgeport City in Texas.
