The census-designated place (CDP) of Bristol is found in Ellis County in the US state of Texas. According to the 2010 census, Bristol had a population of 668. It is located 18 miles northeast of Waxahachie and six miles northeast of Palmer. Settlement into the area dates back as early as the 1840s by Joshua Brock. The community was originally referred to as Brockville. A post office operated here between 1854 and 1869 under that name. The town had adopted the name Brockville in owner of Brock who served as the area’s first postmaster general. The community would unofficially adopt the name Heelstring. The area would be finally renamed Bristol after Captain Steven Mills settled in the town and opened a store. Mills renamed it so in memory of Bristol, England, where he had done business.
