The Brookston unincorporated community is found in Lamar County in the US state of Texas. The town was originally part of the 1870 Zachariah Westfall survey. It served as a temporary terminus for the Texas and Pacific Railway in 1873 when there was a delay in completing the road during the panic of the same year. Brookston got a post office in 1873, and was named after A. D. Brooks who owned the land. By 1884, Brookston’s population was 100. At the time, the town was a key cotton shipping point. Contemporary businesses in the town at the time included a Western Union telegraph office, a saloon, a corn mill, a steam-powered cotton gin, and two general stores.
