The site where Texas’ town of Bruceville sits was originally a campsite for the Indians. This is the spot where Indians stopped to get water from a spring. It is located by the creek running east and parallels to the railroad. About a quarter a mile north of Bruceville is an Indian graveyard deep in the woods. One can easily locate it due to its many holes. The holes were left as people dug for money in the grave. The Indians were buried with their valuables at the time. The town was called Masterville in the 1800s. It was, however, renamed Bruceville after Dr. Bruce, a prominent resident who owned the land where it was built.
