The US census-designated place (CDP) of Bruni is located in Webb County, in the state of Texas. Its population was about 379, according to the 2010 census. The town was named in honor of Antonio Mateo Bruni, an Italian immigrant and owner of a general store and a ranch. In 1937, Canadian aviators crash-landed safely in the area as they sought to be the first-ever to fly to Tierra Del Fuego from Hudson Bay. Bruni’s population peaked in 1939 at 800 after an oilfield was discovered south of Bruni. The town is home to Bruni Middle School and Bruni High School.
