The Buchanan Dam US census-designated place (CDP) in found in Llano County in the state of Texas. According to the 2010 census, Buchanan had a population of 1,519. Buchanan Dam a construction camp’s site established to build power-generation and flood-control facilities on River Colorado. The original name of the project was Bluffton Dam, after a nearby town by the same name. In 1926, the name was changed to Hamilton Dam, perhaps after an engineer who surveyed the area. A post office was opened in the area in 1931. At the time, the town had several hundred workers and a number of recreational, medical, and commercial facilities. In 1932, the project was forced to close due to bankruptcy. However, James Paul Buchanan would in 1934 secure funds that revived the project, hence the name Buchanan Dam.
