The US town of Bullard is located partly in Cherokee and partly in Smith counties in the state of Texas. According to the 2010 census, the town’s population was 2,463. This was an increase from the 1,150 recorded at the 2000 census. Earlier, Bullard was known as “Hewsville” and “Etna.” The town was named after John Bullard and Emma Bullard. John opened the then Hewsville post office right in his store. In 1883, the nearby Etna post office closed shop. Hewsville post office was then renamed Bullard post office. The passing of the railroad literally killed Etna town and gave rise to Bullard.
