China Spring is situated twelve miles northwest of Waco in northwestern McLennan County. The settlement began in 1860. 7 years later, the community was founded. Its name was for spring in a chinaberry grove. Joining with Bosqueville, the China Spring-Bosqueville Independent School District was formed. But in 1965 China Spring became a separate independent school district. Cotton, corn, and wool were the primary shipments from the area. In 2005, the estimated median household income was $53,900. During the mid-1970s, the community was marked by houses on maps. In 2010 the population was estimated to be 5,151. Musician Ted Nugent owns a ranch in the area.
