Named after an early settler Christopher Columbus Doty, Christoval is a vacation destination for tourists. It is also known as South Concho and Delong, Texas. In the 1870s, frontiersmen began to immigrate into the south Concho Valley. The arrival of the railroad in 1930 made Christoval a shipping point for area sheep, wool and cattle industries. The South Concho River runs through the area. Pugh River Park is an oasis located at the south edge of Christoval on Toenail Trail. In 1911, the first annual summer Christoval Baptist encampment was held on the banks of the South Concho River. The Union Church remains an important part of the Christoval community.
