Clarksville is one of the oldest cities in Texas. It was populated in the 1820s but only came into being in 1837. Clarksville is distinct due to the fact it has never suffered through a fire before. There is a large post oak tree that was used to hang a murderer named Page, hence the tree was named Page’s Tree. The downtown square is used to host events such as Clarksville’s Fine Art Festival and the Gateway to Texas Get-A-Way Tour. The monument area is home to numerous historic markers. The Red River County Public Library is the only library that serves the county for free.
