Initially called Springtown, settlement began in Collinsville in the 1850s. The land for the townsite donated by Joshua Miller. Collinsville is located in southwestern Grayson County. A woman, L. M. Collins from Ann Arbor, Michigan opened what is believed to be the first free school in North Texas. Thus, the town was renamed in her honor in the 1890s. Nine years later, the railway arrived. The area was established as a shipping and retail point for area farmers. In the late 1860s, a town called Toadsuck was established in the area, which is now absorbed by Collinsville.
