Cookville is an unincorporated community in eastern Titus County that lies along U.S. Route 67 east of Mount Pleasant, the administrative center of Titus County. It was originally called Clay Hill until it was changed to Cookville in 1880 to honor Andrew B. Cook, who opened a general store in 1867. Cookville began to grow in the late 1870s after becoming a station and a major shipping and supply center for farmers in eastern Titus and western Morris counties. And even though the population dropped after 20 years, it began to grow again during the early years of the 20th century. By 1914, Cookville had a bank, a telephone company, and several stores.
