Cranfills Gap is a city located in Bosque County. It was named after George Eaton Cranfill, who was one of the earliest settlers in the area. The town is near a gap in a mountain, on the border between two counties; hence, where the Gap part of the city name came. Although Cranfills’ settlement date was around 1851, the town jumpstarted in 1879, when a post office was moved from Hamilton County to Cranfills Gap. By 1890, the town had two doctors, stores, a blacksmith forge, a saloon, and St. Olaf’s – a Norwegian Lutheran church that still remains standing as of today. But despite a slight move in 1913, the town never got a railroad.
