Crowley is a city in Tarrant County. The pioneers began farming the area around Deer Creek in around 1848. Then, the Gulf, Colorado, and Sante Fe Railway built pens and laid tracks in the area, moving the settlement to its present site. In 1885, the first station depot was constructed and the community was named after S.H. Crowley, who was the master of the railroad transportation. In 1882, the post office was opened and three years later, Crowley was shown as a town at the Railroad and Country Map of Texas. The railroad, dairy farming, ranching, and relevant businesses were the primary economic activities of Crowley. In 1972, Crowley was voted to change its designation from town to city. In 2000, the city had 292 businesses.
