Damon is a census-designated place in Brazoria County. It was originally known as Damon’s Mound or Damon Mound due to its geological outcropping that stands above the coastal prairie. Hence, both town and mound were named after Samuel Damon, who settled into the area in 1831. In 1890, the community had a post office that was under the name of Damon Mound, along with essential businesses and a physician, a carpenter, a shoemaker, and a busy livestock industry. The post office was discontinued a couple of years later, but it was reopened after three years under the shortened name of Damon. In 1918, a railroad was built to connect local sulfur, limestone, and other mineral extraction industries with Rosenberg. The population had then risen and in 1989, the town had 375 residents and sixteen businesses that include a quarry, feed stores, appliance shops, convenience stores, boot shops, cotton gins, and taxidermists.
