Danbury is a city in Brazoria County. It was only populated by a few ranchers and farmers until the Missouri Pacific Railroad came in between 1905 and 1906. The railroad granted access to the lands that had been previously unreachable, resulting in the growth of the town. On one note, the town was said to be named after D.J. “Uncle Dan” Moller, a rancher and a railway manager who frequently entertained the railroad construction workers at night with music and tall tales. On another note, the town was said to be named after Daniel T. Miller. The land was advertised in a newspaper and soon enough, a hotel was built to accommodate the prospective buyers. A demonstration farm garden was planted, businesses started to open, and the post office was established in 1909. Austin Bayou then constructed docks for farmers; the produce included watermelons, onions, cabbages, and strawberries. After a brief oil production past WWI, Danbury returned to its cattle-raising and rice production.
