Deer Park is a city in Harris County. It was founded in 1892 and was named for the numerous deers that roamed around the Gulf plains. A rail line station was established towards the end of that year, followed by a post office the next year. Although the population declined in 1940, the area began to flourish after six years. Deer Park became the site of refineries and toluene plants for the production of TNT. In 1948, the community was incorporated and by 1970, the town had eighty-six businesses that include the manufacturing of plastics, paper products, carbon, concrete products, and alkali materials.
