Dodge is an unincorporated community in Walker County. It was first settled in 1825, but William Parmer founded the community in 1872 when a railroad depot was built in the area and named it Dodge Station. His father, Martin Parmer, was the original landowner and the signee of the Texas Declaration of Independence. The community was named after Phelps Dodge Corporation, the company that established it. In 1881, a post office was inaugurated and Dodge Station became Dodge. The settlement grew from then until a catastrophic fire damaged the town for two consecutive years in the early 1920s. Dodge served as a railroad crossing, which provided the lumber industry in the area. However, the Great Depression phased out the industry and the community lost its momentum. In 1990, Dodge had two businesses, a post office, a church, and a population of 150. The number of residents remained in the year 2000.
