Dodson is a town in Collingsworth County. It was founded in 1910 by Frank Kell, a railway promoter, and named it after Elmore Dodson, who contributed a land grant as a bonus for the railroad. The town immediately grew from then and by the 1920s, Dodson was incorporated. In 1940, its population dropped tremendously, decreasing the agricultural activity of the town. As a result, the town got interested in cattle raising; hence in 1984, Dodson became the county’s second-largest town, with a population of 185. Cattle raising remained to be the town’s economic mainstay towards the 1990s. In the year 2000, Dodson had 115 residents.
