Douglass is an unincorporated community in Nacogdoches County. It was first settled about 1829 and was named after Gen. Kelsey Harris Douglas, a well-known early settler who initiated several businesses in the area. At one point, Douglass had a gristmill, a tannery, a sawmill, a brick kiln, a cotton gin, a church, a school, and a Masonic lodge. By 1927, the town had a large community hall with electric lights, until two catastrophic fires in 1943 and 1954 hit the town. In the 1980s and 1990s, the community only had a post office, two businesses, a school, and 75 residents. The population remained the same in the year 2000. Douglass is the home of the Douglass Indians Baseball team, the 2014 State Champions.
