The US city of Easton is partly in Rusk County and partly in Gregg County, both of which are in the state of Texas. Most of the city lies near a bluff on the southern bank of Sabine River. It was initially known as Walling’s Ferry, then renamed to Camden. Towards the end of the 1880s, Easton had a large sawmill in operation. By 1890, the town had a population of 75, a shingle and lumber plant, and a Buchanan & Company general store. The community would later decline, with most of its white inhabitants moving to Longview and other towns.
