The US city of Ector is situated Fannin County in the state of Texas. Its population during the 2010 census was estimated at 600. The community was founded in the late 19th century when the Caney Creek area was settled by farmers. Initially, the community was named “Victor’s Station”. This name was later abandoned when postal authorities were made aware of the existence of a town by a similar name. Consequently, the name was changed to Ector, in honor of Ector Owens, one of the early settlers in the area. A post office was opened in the area in 1886.
