The US city of Eden is located in Concho County in the state of Texas. The city’s estimated population was 2,766, according to the 2010 census. Interestingly, half of this population was Eden Detention Center inmates. The city is about 160 miles northwest of Austin. The community’s rapid growth was as a result of trading in agricultural products. Eden’s pioneer settlers included the family of Louisa and Harvey McCarty. Frederick Ede moved here around 1881 alongside his family. Later, in 1882, Ede would donate 40 acres of land for use as a townsite and for building a town square. A post office was opened in the area in 1883 and named Eden. The name Ede was adapted from Frederick Ede’s name.
