Eldorado is the county seat of Schleicher County in Texas. Texas State granted this area to the Houston East and West Texas Railway in 1878 for the construction of a railroad. However, the company failed to erect any track in this area. Later in 1895, W. B. Silliman surveyed the area and founded Eldorado. Silliman opened a store, attracting many people to this area. In 1895, Eldorado opened its first post office, and by 1896 two general stores were in operation. Later in 1897, a school started, and in 1907, Eldorado became the county seat. Due to the development of highways, the demand for railroads declined and led to the abandonment of Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.
