The U.S unincorporated community of Elm Mott distinctively sits near the intersection of Farm Road 308 and Interstate Highway 35. The early settlers in this area were Christians and their extended families after the civil war. The community was initially known as Geneva until 1872 when citizens changed it to Elm Grove. What led to the renaming of this place was a post office establishment. The first school in the area first established in 1876. It changed its name from Union Grove to Geneva in 1887 later to Elm Mott in 1897. A private bank opened in Elm Mott in 1921. It later closed in 1926 as farmers failed to repay loans due to an effect of a drought in 1925.
