Farmersville, Texas is located in eat Collin County. It was founded by settlers who named the community after their principal occupation -farming- in 1849. The earlier settlement known as Sugar Hill had been started in 1845 but was abandoned when residents moved to Farmersville. The land for the town square was donated by one William Gotcher in 1859. 14 years later, the town was incorporated with John S. Rike being the first mayor. After the arrival of the railroad, Farmersville became a shipping point for vegetables and bois d’arc fence posts. In 1980 the town began “Old Time Saturday” which is an event that remembers pre-television Texas.
