The town of Fischer began in the late 1800s when two brothers, Herman and Otto Fischer claimed over 3,000 acres of land. It became a supply center in the 1850s. Originally named Fischer’s Store when Fischer built a log trading post to serve the frontier community. Fischer Store School replaced Potters Creek in 1888, and after World War II Fischer became the center of a school district for northern Comal County. The Fischer Dance Hall was first a schoolhouse which became a dance hall and is home to the annual music festival ‘Fischer Fest’. There is a Victorian farmhouse that has been renovated as a vacation rental called Fischer Haus.
