Named after local landowner, Robert P. Flynt, Flint was originally part of the Tomas Quevedo survey. The economy was blooming with agricultural products and cotton. The Great Depression greatly injured the business of the area. The Flint ISD merged with Tyler’s ISD in 1952. The Flint Independent School District had been established, but it was later consolidated into the Tyler Independent School District. The school in Flint became the town’s community. Today, Flint is experiencing exponential growth as a "bedroom community" in Tyler. As of 2000 census, the population increased from 150 in 1989 to 700 in 2000.
