Being the county seat of Wilson County, Floresville is located in the central portion of the county. The area was settled by Canary Island Immigrant Don Francisco Flores de Abrego. Originally called Lodi, it served as the county seat from 1867 to 1873. The name Floresville came from a local family in1867. Today, Lodi is located on the southwest edge of present day Floresville. The town was platted in the early 1870s. Peanut production started with the introduction of irrigation by grower Andrew G. Pickett. The town was promoted as ‘Peanut Capital of Texas’. Floresville has been hosting the annual Peanut Festival since 1938.
