Named after a surveyor’s home county in Virginia, Fluvanna is located in northwestern Scurry County. It was established by realty promoters who knew that the railway was going to pass through the area. It boomed briefly and had a lumberyard and a cotton gin by 1911. Fluvanna's importance lessened when major highways bypassed the area. The town’s days as a shipping center was over when the railroad was closed in 1941. Fluvanna was also home to the Fluvanna Mercantile Company. In 2000 its population was reported as 180, which is same as in 1990.
