Garland is a city located almost entirely in Dallas County but has small portions going into Collin and Rockwell counties. The city’s population was 226,876 as of the 2010 census. Immigrants arrived at the land in the 1850s but a community was not formed until 1874. There was a rivalry between two communities in the area Embree and Duck Creek. To settle the dispute, Judge Thomas A. Nash asked Joe Abbott to place the post office between the two towns. Soon after the towns were combined, the community was incorporated in 1891. Almost fifteen years later, the town had an estimated population of around nine hundred. Some of the top sights in the city are Southfork Ranch, Hawaiin Falls Garland, Breckinridge Park, and North Central Expressway.
