Gatesville is a city located in Coryell County in Texas. As of the 2010 census, the city’s population was 15,751. The town had its beginnings in 1854 when the Coryell County was created. The town was the county seat ever since. Richard Grant was an Indian trader and a local landowner who donated the townsite. He named the town Old Fort Gates which only lasted a few years. It was then changed to what it is today. Gatesville’s total area is 8.9 square miles according to the U.S Bureau. Gatesville’s public education system is distributed by the Gatesville Independent School District.
