Gause is an unincorporated community located in Millam County in Texas. The community’s estimated population was around 400 as of the year 2000. The community itself was named for William J. Gause who was an early settler who moved to the area in 1872. He gave the right of way to the International-Great Northern Railroad. When the railroad came through the area, this caused the community to grow and a post office opened in 1874. The population of the community was in 1915 when there were around a thousand residents living in the community. The community’s public education system is served by its own Independent School District.
